Volunteers are the Backbone of Our Community

Bendigo Foodshare could not function without volunteers.

Our service relies on volunteers to keep the service going.  Here are some facts and figures about our volunteer team:

We have over 20 volunteers in our work force, their jobs are varied and many including:

  • All the unloading of produce
  • Stacking and packing of produce.
  • Cleaning of the warehouse
  • Stock rotation
  • Deliveries across central Victoria.
  • All stock is ordered by volunteers
  • Volunteers rescue all food.
  • Our board is made up of 7 volunteers who do all the planning,

Our Ambassador Network on ABC Central Victoria

We are amazing at providing food  to the region’s most disadvantaged.  Food that would have otherwise have gone to waste.

What we are learning to do better is get our story out into the community. Did you know  that one in nine people in Victoria do not have enough food to last them a week? These people are our neighbors, friends, and family.

Our new ambassador program is aiming to raise awareness about food poverty in Bendigo.  Our Manager Ray and ambassador Peter Bull of Viatek were interviewed by ABC Central Vic.

Peter Bull, who’s General Manager of Viatek Central Victoria, says Bendigo Foodshare aims to reduce food poverty by distributing food to charities, community organisations and schools throughout Central Victoria.

“It’s a not-for-profit group, run by volunteers. Some of the not-for-profit organisations they provide food to are actually clients of ours, such as the Salvation Army and some of the schools. The schools have food available for children who often don’t get breakfast at home and don’t have lunch to take to school.

“Bendigo Foodshare does a fantastic job. Their monthly throughput is now 90 tonne.
