It’s time to cook!

As part of our YouFoods project to tackle youth food insecurity, young people have put together their favourite quick, easy and tasty recipes to whip up in the kitchen. Take a look below, give them a try and let us know the result!

Nachos with Homemade Salsa and Guacamole



  • 2 medium tomatoes, finely diced
  • 1/2 a red onion, finely diced
  • 2 teaspoons of coriander, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup of lime juice
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of finely chopped garlic


  1. Finely dice tomatoes and remove seeds, finely dice onion and put them in a bowl, set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, and in lime juice, garlic and salt and pepper.
  3. Add your lime juice mixture to your tomatoes and onions, finely chop coriander and add and mix through.


  • 150g of beef mince
  • 1/2 a red onion
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1/4 can of kidney beans
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped coriander
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • Corn chips
  • Cheese


  1. Dice your red onion, and put it in a fry pan with butter and garlic. Once browned add your mince and salt and pepper.
  2. Once browned add in your tomato paste, rinse off your kidney beans, add a splash of water and simmer until thickened.


  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon of mayo
  • 1/4 of an onion
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sweet chilli sauce


  1. Get your avocado and cut it in half, twisting to split it in half.
  2. Using a spoon scoop out the avocado into a bowl, using a for k to mash it up so it’s smooth.
  3. Add in your mayo, salt, pepper and sweet chilli sauce.
  4. Dice your onion really finely and mix together.
