On the weekend our Warehouse Operations Manager Kaye and our Warehouse Coordinator Joe attended the Indian Association of Bendigo’s Independence Day celebration. Doesn’t Kaye look snazzy in her traditional Indian suit?
The 15th of August marks the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence Day, the day when India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, raised the country’s flag in 1947 at the Red Fort in Dehli and India became a self-governing nation.
The atmosphere at Holy Rosary Hall was nothing but incredible. Laughter and music filled the air as the Indian community in Bendigo came together to celebrate their culture. Entertainment was not lacking – kids performed cultural dances and adults sang patriotic songs. Joe and Kaye felt delighted to experience the cultural aspects of the Indian Culture.
Indian elders spoke words of wisdom and shared their stories of immigration. It was wonderful to hear that they have not only happily integrated into Australian society but also helped make improvements to both industries and commerce.
It is an Indian custom to always bring food or gifts to any celebration, so naturally, the leaders of the Bendigo Indian Association asked their community to support our Food Drive. And we were very grateful when they handed us 2000kgs of donated food.
Bendigo Foodshare looks forward to working closely together with the Indian Community in the future.
Thanks for including us on this very special day!
