Join Bendigo Foodshare’s Food Fight for Youth – and help us tackle youth food insecurity across Central Victoria.

Empowering our youth

Through a wide range of initiatives, such as our Cooking for Change program, school engagement activities and partnerships with local agencies and services, we’re making it easier for young people to have the skills, resources and info they need to be food secure.

We know a stigma exists for young people accessing food support – but equally, how important food is to live, work, learn and play well. Our work responds directly to the needs of local young people and puts their voices at the centre of the solution – empowering them with awareness of how and where to get help, and to lend a hand to their mates if they’re in need.

This work has been informed by local research we conducted in 2020 which asked young people about their experience with food poverty. The results revealed that 71% of respondents had experienced a level of food insecurity in the preceding two years, yet only 12% had sought support from a food bank or charity. Participants also gave their ‘big idea’ to solve the problem. The full report is available by clicking here.
