Bendigo Easter Book Fair returns with more room to browse

The much‑loved Bendigo Easter Book Fair is back this Easter, offering book lovers more space to browse tens of thousands of pre‑loved books, while raising vital funds for Bendigo Foodshare.

The four‑day event will be held at MacGillivray Hall at Bendigo TAFE, 128 McCrae Street, Bendigo, following a successful move to the venue last Easter. This year, an additional room has been added, giving visitors much needed space to explore the extensive range on offer.

Bendigo Foodshare CEO Michelle Murphy said the Book Fair is only made possible thanks to a dedicated team of more than 80 Bendigo Foodshare volunteers, who give their time year‑round to sort, organise and prepare the books for sale.

“Our volunteers are ready to put on another magical event as part of the Bendigo Easter Festival,” Ms Murphy said.

“Our Long Gully warehouse is full to the rafters with tens of thousands of books, boxed up and ready for sale.”

“We’re grateful for Bendigo TAFE for hosting us again and giving us another room to use which has allowed us to spread our tables out for more spacious browsing and better flow for the entry and exit.”

The event aims to raise over $50,000 to support Bendigo Foodshare’s work providing food relief to local families doing it tough.

Ms Murphy said the funds raised through the Book Fair play a critical role in supporting the charity’s operations at a time of increasing need across the community.

“We know there’s a lot of uncertainty right now, and many Central Victorians are under pressure when it comes to putting food on the table,” she said.

“This event is a significant fundraiser for Bendigo Foodshare, helping us keep our warehouse and vehicles operating and supporting our prevention programs.”

Each year, the Bendigo Easter Book Fair attracts visitors from across Victoria, with long queues forming on opening morning as keen book lovers line up to secure their next great read.

Thousands of pre‑loved books, magazines, records, CDs and DVDs will be available at bargain prices, with stock continuously restocked throughout the event.

Book Fair Volunteer Coordinator Garth Keech said Bendigo Foodshare has temporarily paused accepting book donations while volunteers focus on preparing for the Easter Book Fair.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the community’s ongoing generosity, but at this stage we are at capacity as we get ready for the Easter Book Fair,” Mr Keech said.
“We encourage people to hold on to their book donations until after Easter.”
