Bendigo Book Fair returns for AFL Grand Final long weekend

Following a record-breaking Easter event, the Bendigo Book Fair is set to return this AFL Grand Final long weekend, offering book lovers the chance to browse tens of thousands of pre-loved books while helping raise vital funds for Bendigo Foodshare.

The three-day event will be held at MacGillivray Hall, Bendigo TAFE, 128 McCrae Street, Bendigo, and will feature an expanded layout, including an exclusive collectibles room, giving visitors even more space to explore the extensive range on offer. Visitors can expect an impressive selection of books, magazines, records, CDs and DVDs, all available at bargain prices.

This year’s spring event is aiming to raise more than $30,000 to support Bendigo Foodshare’s ongoing efforts to provide food relief across central Victoria.

Bendigo Foodshare CEO Michelle Murphy said every purchase made at the Book Fair helps support local people experiencing food insecurity.

“The community has embraced the Book Fair year after year and every book purchased helps put food on the table for local people doing it tough. It’s a simple way for people to support our local community and make a meaningful difference,” Ms Murphy said.

“The need for food relief across Central Victoria continues to rise, with more than 17,000 people now relying on support each week. Funds raised through the Bendigo Book Fair play a vital role in helping us ensure everyone has dignified access to healthy food.”

The Bendigo Book Fair is made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers, led by Garth Keech, who give countless hours throughout the year sorting donated books and preparing for the event.

“Our volunteers are the heart of the Book Fair. Their contribution is enormous and has a lasting impact on the community,” Mr Keech said.

Bendigo Foodshare is calling on community members to volunteer their time during the long weekend, with two-hour shifts available throughout the event.

“We’re still looking for extra hands to help out over the long weekend.  Even just a couple of hours of your time can have a big impact. For anyone thinking about it please join us, there’s so much to gain – volunteering is a great way to meet new people, be part of a fantastic community event and supports a cause that helps feed people in your community.”
