This month we are celebrating one of our longest serving volunteers – Colin Walls who has now been volunteering with us for 10 years!
For the past 10 years, Colin has been manning the forklift, keeping the warehouse ship shape and helping the many volunteers learn to stack the food the correct way .
Over his years of involvement, Colin has been at the warehouse week in and week out. He’s always rolled up his sleeves and done what’s needed to be done from back when there were only 10 volunteers through to today with over 200 volunteers. Whether it was driving the vans, unloading the trucks, setting up procedures and processes or stacking crates.
Reflecting on his volunteering, Colin says, “I’m aware of the absolute privilege my life has been and I can be part of helping so many organisations that help other people – because so many people in our society need our services. And I could be of use, I could use some of the skills and knowledge that I had.”
