National Volunteer Week: Bendigo Foodshare volunteers report record satisfaction levels
Bendigo Foodshare is celebrating its volunteers this National Volunteer Week (18–24 May 2026), following standout results from its annual volunteer survey showing record levels of satisfaction and connection.
The survey found that 100% of Bendigo Foodshare volunteers are satisfied with their volunteering experience — the highest rating the charity has ever received.
With 402 active volunteers contributing more than 35,000 hours each year — valued at over $1.5 million — volunteers play a vital role in powering Bendigo Foodshare’s day-to-day operations.
Additional survey results showed:
  • 99% of respondents would recommend Bendigo Foodshare as a place to volunteer
  • 80% say volunteering has supported or improved their mental health
  • 93% feel their contribution is valued
  • 74% report a stronger sense of belonging in their community
The data is based on responses from 107 volunteers, with giving back to the community remaining the strongest motivation for volunteering, followed closely by social connection.
Bendigo Foodshare CEO Michelle Murphy said the results reflect the positive and welcoming culture built by volunteers and staff.
“Our volunteers are a truly special group of people, and we simply couldn’t operate without their generosity,” she said.
This marks the sixth year Bendigo Foodshare has conducted its annual volunteer survey, with results continuing to improve each year.
“At a time when many organisations are finding it harder to attract and retain volunteers, we’re proud to see strong and growing engagement, and even a waitlist for our volunteer inductions.”
