When we first started our partnership with St. Liborius Primary School in 2020 teachers were personally delivering food packages to family homes during lockdowns, now things look a little different, but it’s all done with the same care. Now, families are greeted with warmth and a true sense of community at school drop-off and pick-up, where the food relief team shares packages with those who need a little extra support.

As part of our Food Relief Partner visits, our team met with School Counsellor Louise Trewhella and the dedicated teachers who work tirelessly to support families in need. During our visit, our team gained valuable insight into the logistics behind the school’s weekly food relief program and the ongoing efforts to improve student and family wellbeing.

The program is powered by volunteer social workers and classroom teachers who have helped foster trust and build strong connections within the school community. Through regular contact and gentle encouragement, families have become more confident in reaching out for support. Louise shared that there has been a “gradual increase in parental confidence and openness to discuss their needs,” a testament to the program’s impact.

In the 2024–2025 financial year alone, Bendigo Foodshare provided 7,800 kg of food to St. Liborius families—equivalent to approximately 14,600 meals.

“Our families express gratitude for the successful food relief program, and there is a notable positive impact on families and our community,” said School Counsellor Louise Trewhella.

A big thank you to the St. Liborius community for welcoming the Bendigo Foodshare team during our visit. We look forward to continuing this partnership and growing together!
