Volunteer in focus: Phil, a retired teacher, began volunteering with his wife Karin in 2021. He’s part of a growing number of volunteers who are choosing to get involved in a variety of roles. Phil started volunteering on the warehouse floor and this year stepped into a shift coordinator role, helping to guide and support fellow volunteers.
He’s also embraced opportunities in our Cooking for Change program, including assisting in our corporate cooking sessions, as well as returning to the classroom to support students through hands-on cooking lessons – drawing on his teaching skills in a new and meaningful way. Reflecting on his experience, Phil shared:
“It’s a great honour and deeply rewarding giving back to the community, especially to those who may be doing it tough. Knowing I can make a difference and help positively impact others’ lives means a lot – and it’s all made possible by the welcoming and supportive environment created by the Bendigo Foodshare team.”
How lucky we are to work with such a wonderful bunch of people! Thank you Phil.
