Every year, we survey our Food Partners who help us deliver food relief to over 15,000 people across Central Victoria each week. Their insights help us understand what’s changing across our region — and how we can keep improving the way we work together.

In 2025, 45 registered organisations shared their experiences with us.

Here’s what they told us.

Not a single food partner saw a decrease in demand this year.
In fact:

  • 70% said demand increased compared to last year
  • 50% saw increases of up to 20%
  • 28% saw increases between 21% and 40%

Families and single‑parent households continue to seek the most support, alongside older people, people experiencing homelessness, and — for the fourth-year running — a growing number of people accessing food relief for the very first time.

Carers saw the biggest shift this year, doubling from 18% to 36% of partners noticing an increase in demand.

Despite these pressures, feedback about our service was incredibly positive. Over 97% of partners reported being satisfied with the support they receive from Bendigo Foodshare.

Increasing Demand Across the Region

In 2025, no organisation reported a decrease in demand. Most saw an increase of up to 20%, with some experiencing significantly higher need.

What Food Matters Most

Fresh fruit and vegetables continue to be the foundation of food relief programs, followed closely by pantry staples, dairy, eggs, bread, and prepared meals. Many partners also told us they need more culturally appropriate food, meat, toiletries, household items, and pet food.

Challenges on the Ground

This year, 20% of food partners reported they cannot fully meet demand. Reasons included:

  • Not enough food (89%)
  • Not enough funding (67%)
  • Not enough staff or volunteers (33%)

Our Priorities Moving Forward

Based on the feedback shared, we’re focusing on:

  • Improving access to culturally appropriate and dietary‑specific foods
  • Strengthening communication and engagement with our partners
  • Enhancing how we sort and distribute food items
