We recognise food access is a basic human right, not a privilege. Dignity is a guiding principle for how we interact with people, design our services, make decisions and contribute to a stronger local food system.

We recognise that food insecurity is shaped by broader social, economic and systemic factors. While we work within the constraints of available resources, donated food and funding, we are committed to continually improving how people access food and participate in our community.

What dignified access means for Bendigo Foodshare

At Bendigo Foodshare, we believe everyone deserves access to good food and should feel empowered to make their own choices about the food they need and want.

Dignified access means not only having access to food relief, but having the skills, knowledge, and opportunity to grow, cook, and eat healthy food to live, work, learn and play well.

Our commitment is to:

  • Treat every person with respect, fairness and without judgement.
  • Support choice and independence wherever possible.
  • Create welcoming, safe and inclusive environments.
  • Provide food that is healthy, of good quality, and reflects the needs of diverse communities.
  • Build opportunities for participation, learning, volunteering and connection.
  • Work alongside our community to strengthen access to food for everyone.
  • Support people to achieve greater food security over time.
