Our Warehouse Coordinator Joe, CEO Michelle, and trainee Hailey recently visited Huntly Primary School to meet Kate, a dedicated volunteer who’s been supporting the school’s food relief program for over five years – including through the challenges of COVID.

They also met Selena, the school’s welfare officer, who helps coordinate support for families in need.

Each week, we deliver fresh produce and ready-made meals to the school. Most of it is quickly taken home by families, and any excess is donated to the Huntly Community Hub, where it supports not only school families but also university students and other locals.

The program supports a growing number of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families, including many from the Karen community. Fresh fruit and vegetables are especially appreciated, while heat-and-eat meals from our Cooking for Change program are popular.

The pantry operates with a ‘no questions asked’ approach, offering food relief during two sessions – morning and afternoon. Some families rely on it weekly, while others come when they need it most.  Any produce not suitable for distribution is fed to the school chickens – ensuring nothing goes to waste.

The team welcomes everyone who accesses this service with a friendly smile, patience and care, understanding that for many it’s hard to ask for help. We’re proud to stand alongside Huntly Primary School in supporting families with dignity.
