Weeroona College Students: Cooking for Change & Celebrating Community

Six Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) students from Weeroona College Bendigo didn't just cook — they rose to the challenge and made a real impact! Over two Cooking for Change sessions, these Year 11 and 12 students created an incredible 172 meals, including:

  • Pasta Bolognese
  • Pasta with Vegetable Sauce
  • Apple Crumble
  • Apple Cobbler (a twist on the classic dessert!)

Meals were shared together for lunch, with the students and 126 meals were donated to Bendigo Foodshare to support people doing it tough. That's practical learning with a purpose!

But the story doesn't end there. These students are working with their teachers to build real-world skills and confidence, setting themselves up for success beyond school. Their curriculum is designed for hands-on experiences in the community — and they've embraced it wholeheartedly.

To cap off the year, the class hosted a special end-of-year lunch for Bendigo Foodshare and other community partners like Long Gully Community Garden and Huntly Men's Shed. It was a celebration of teamwork, growth, and the incredible contributions these students have made to the community.

One meal at a time, these young people are proving that learning can change lives — theirs and others.
